Day 1 Arrival
Arrive at your hotel in La Charité-sur-Loire, right in the heart of the town. Take time to stroll around the town centre.
Day 2 La Charité-sur-Loire - Sancerre - Saint-Satur 31 km
Leave La Charité-sur-Loire and follow the Loire along a pleasant cycle path. You then enter the Sancerre wine region, one of the world's most beautiful wine-growing landscapes. When you arrive in Sancerre, be sure to visit the Maison des Sancerre and enjoy a glass of this precious beverage with a Crottin de Chavignol!
Day 3 Saint-Satur - Batilly-en-Puisaye 41 km
You drive up the Canal Latéral à la Loire. On the way, before entering Puisaye, why not stop off at Cosne sur Loire and visit the Musée de la Loire, housed in a former Augustinian convent? Your day ends in an Ecolodge in the heart of the Puisaye countryside.
Day 4 Batilly - Lainsecq 50 km
Via small country roads, you will reach the Château de Guédelon, a unique castle being built according to the methods of the Middle Ages. During your visit, be sure to take part in the fun workshops on offer! You then leave Guédelon and make your way through the forests to Lainsecq.
Day 5 Lainsecq - Vézelay 46 km
A beautiful day awaits you! Passing through small villages and back roads, you reach today's destination, Vézelay. One of the most beautiful views in Burgundy awaits you here, near the Basilica of Sainte Madeleine, a masterpiece of Romanesque art and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the Middle Ages, Vézelay was a major place of pilgrimage and a major stopover on the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela.
Day 6 Vézelay - Vermenton 48 km
After a beautiful climb through the heart of the Bois de la Madeleine, you reach the Yonne valley. You will cycle along the Yonne all day, as well as the Canal du Nivernais. You'll pass picturesque sites such as Châtel-Censoir, Le Saussois and its rock-climbing crags, then Mailly-le-Château, before finally arriving in Vermenton.
Day 7 Vermenton - Chablis 35 km
After passing charming villages such as Irancy, famous for its Pinot Noir, you enter the Chablis region and discover France's largest vineyard of white wines from a single appellation: the famous Chablis.
Day 8 Chablis - Auxerre 37 km
You pass through the wine-growing villages of the Auxerrois region: Chitry and Saint-Bris-le-Vineux, Bailly. In Bailly, you enter the "Centre of the Earth", a huge cellar where the famous Crémant de Bourgogne is made, which you take time to taste. Then take the towpath back to Auxerre. The tour ends in Auxerre.
