Day 1 Arrival
Arrive in Joigny and enjoy this beautiful town of art and history nestling on the banks of the Yonne.
Day 2 Joigny - Tonnerre 55 km
After breakfast, you begin your cycling trip. On the towpath, you will pass through a variety of landscapes of vineyards and pastures that alternate until you reach Tonnerre. Tonnerre, home of the Chevalier d'Eon, has a few treasures to offer: the Hôtel-Dieu, a former hospital dating from the 13th century, the wash-house and the famous Fosse Dionne.
Day 3 Tonnerre - Montbard 60 km
This stage takes you along the romantic Canal de Bourgogne and takes in two superb Renaissance châteaux: first the Château d'Tanlay and then the Château d'Ancy le Franc, built by the architect Seclio in the 17th century. Arrive in Montbard. This pretty town on the banks of the Canal is the home of Buffon, the 18th century naturalist and mathematician.
Day 4 Montbard - Pouilly-en-Auxois 54 km
Continue along the Canal de Bourgogne. The landscape is particularly green. You can make a short diversions to visit Fontenay Abbey, a magnificent Cistercian abbey listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can also visit the archaeological site of Alesia and its Museopark. You then return to the banks of the canal to continue your pleasant journey to Pouilly en Auxois, a very pleasant little Burgundy town.
Day 5 Pouilly-en-Auxois - Dijon 60 km
Leave Pouilly and ride leisurely to Dijon. The capital of Burgundy welcomes you with its charm. In the heart of the city, you'll discover the Dukes' Palace, the Musée des Beaux-Arts, which houses some of the richest collections in French museums, and Saint-Bénigne Cathedral. You can also sample the region's famous wine and mustard.
Day 6 Departure
