Château de Sully
The century-old orange trees in the castle courtyard and the autumnal decoration of the castle.
While nature is adorned with golden colours, a light mist rises from the moat of the castle, giving it a mysterious atmosphere that is perfect for Halloween entertainment!
A jewel of the French Renaissance, Sully and its towers are quietly reflected in the water of the surrounding moat. In this beautiful family castle was born the famous Marshal de Mac Mahon, one of the first Presidents of the French Republic. Today inhabited by his descendants, the Duchess of Magenta and her children, Sully breathes French history and joie de vivre.
Once you have passed the heavy gate of the castle, you enter a timeless universe. The sumptuous Renaissance main courtyard - "the most beautiful castle courtyard in the kingdom of France", according to Roger de Bussy Rabutin - meets the facades of the 18th and 19th centuries and the towers of the Middle Ages. With its furniture, paintings, tapestries and numerous souvenirs from past centuries, the interior is warm and welcoming.
The park, created in the 17th century and redesigned by landscape architect Achille Duchêne in the 20th century, is a haven of peace, with its century-old orange trees in boxes, its experimental permaculture vegetable garden, its ice house and its 12th-century chapel.
Don't miss the wine tasting of the Domaine du Duc de Magenta, the family vineyard based in Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet (reservation required).
